Drainage observation planner
Choose the situation to make a useful observation brief without opening covers or testing drains.
What each choice helps you prepare
One fitting drains slowly
- Record the fitting and when the symptom started.
- Note whether other fittings are affected without running extra water as a test.
- Ask whether the visit includes diagnosis, clearance and a written account of the outcome.
Several fittings or outside overflow
- Record which areas are affected from a safe position; keep away from sewage.
- Check the existing emergency guidance and Anglian Water responsibility route before arranging private work.
- Ask how the likely asset owner will be established; a boundary alone does not settle ownership.
Recurring blockage after clearance
- Collect any previous clearance dates and reports you already hold.
- Ask what evidence would justify a CCTV survey rather than repeat clearance alone.
- Agree whether footage, a defect plan and follow-on repair recommendations are included.
Assumptions and limits: This records symptoms; it cannot locate a blockage, determine ownership or diagnose a defect. Do not enter chambers, lift heavy covers or use this page for urgent response.

CCTV survey deliverables checklist
Use this when comparing a planned drain survey, including a property purchase or repeat blockage investigation.
Assumptions and limits: Tick only what you have recorded or agreed. This is a conversation aid, not a survey, safety certificate, consent check or confirmation that work can start. Unticked items remain questions to resolve with the business or relevant authority.

Take the next step with the right service
Use your result as a starting point for a conversation. A business must assess the actual property, materials and work. It does not confirm provider availability, permissions or a booking.
For historic buildings or protected trees, check the actual address or tree using West Suffolk’s conservation information and the relevant service guidance. Being in Bury St Edmunds alone does not establish a restriction. Calculated areas, volumes and counts are arithmetic aids, not specifications. Decimal results display up to six decimal places; measurement accuracy may be much lower.
